The cast iron ball valves operate with a ball instead of a gate. The ball can be of a different material than cast iron. The material choice depends on the fluid circulated inside the pipeline. There are different types of valves such as the cast iron radiator valves used to circulate coolants and water through the radiator. Some valves are unidirectional and some are bidirectional. The valve operation and type such as the cast iron butterfly valves depends on the nature of the applications. The butterfly valve is another type of gate valve with the gate formed as a butterfly shaped disc.

What is Cast Iron Valves?

The valve is operated by a handwheel. The handwheel is connected to a threaded stem and the stem holds the gate inside the valve body. As the handwheel turns, the stem is raised with the gate from the seating. This opens the valve. The gate valves are useful in preventing water hammer effect into the pipelines.
