Alloy 31 Valves are made up of an iron nickel chromium molybdenum alloy that has nitrogen for stabilization. The specific composition provides the material with corrosion resistance and erosion resistance which are useful for valve operation. This material is specifically corrosion resistant to phosphoric acids. The DIN 1.4562 ball valve is used in bleaching plants and in paper and pulp industry due to the extended corrosion resistance of the material. The valves come under ASTM B622 and have sizes ranging from 2 inches to 24 inches. There are custom made sizes available as well.

The different types of valves include the UNS N08031 gate valve and others. The gate valves are mostly operated manually where automated valves also exist. The gate valve has a gate that opens and closes a valve. These can be bidirectional valves allowing the fluid flow in both directions. When the valve needs to regulate the flow in only one direction, the ASTM B622 Alloy 31 check valves are used.
These valves have a mechanism to direct the flow only in one direction. This way, the application remains stable. When the pressure drops and the fluid attempts to fall back, the valve closes blocking the backflow. The Alloy 31 plug valves are another type which use plugs instead of balls or gates. The plugs are seated in the seating while in the closed position. The plug is lifted off when the valve needs to open.
